‘Winnie The Witch’ by Valerie Thomas, illustrated by Korky Paul.
Winnie the Witch lives in a black house. She has black chairs and black stairs, black floors and black doors. The trouble is that Winnie’s cat, Wilbur, is also black. After sitting on him and tripping over him, Winnie decides to turn Wilbur into a green cat. But then he goes out into the long grass! Winnie is going to need a little magic to make sure she can always see Wilbur . . .

‘Swan Princess’ a traditional tale. NB. this version of the story is very long.
Princess Eliza and her brothers are perfectly happy – until their father marries a woman who is secretly a witch. determined to get rid of the children, the witch turns the brothers into swans. But Eliza escapes her clutches and sets out to undo the spell.

“Rapunzel’ a classic tale (Ladybird Books)
A witch took Rapunzel away from her parents when she was a baby, and locked her in a high tower. The tower had no doors, every day when the witch came to see Rapunzel she called out “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair” and Rapunzel threw her long golden hair out of the window for the witch to climb up. One day a prince rode by and saw the witch climb up to Rapunzel in the tower and he decided to rescue her….

‘Hansel and Gretel’ a traditional tale. (Marks and Spencer book)
When the food runs out at the woodcutter’s cottage, Hansel and Gretel’s wicked stepmother sends them away. But what luck! In the wood the children find a cottage made of sweets: but it’s not all it seems. Watch out for the witch!
N.B. The wooden cage is no longer in the sack, it was broken in 2011.
